I won’t be coming back because of the way you treat animals

Sir,

As I tourist to your island I was appalled by the number of starving companion animals, cats and dogs that I encountered on my holiday.

I cannot understand that the government of a popular destination such as Cyprus can allow this situation to get worse. It tore my heart out to see this, and upon my return to England I searched on the Internet for organisations such as the Paphiakos Animal charity to see what was being done about the situation.

Just a handful of people who care about the welfare of animals are doing their best to help the situation, but are now not being supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and land for a new much-needed shelter has been refused. The government should support charities such as these so a programme of neutering can be organised which will in turn reduce the numbers of unwanted kittens and pups.

I can choose where I want to spend my holidays — and will not be taking my family to Cyprus again.
