Man ‘tried to make girlfriend miscarry’

POLICE yesterday arrested a 21-year-old Larnaca man after he allegedly beat up his 18-year-old girlfriend with the intention of making her miscarry.
The couple had been staying at the Protea Hotel in Pyla on Friday night when the young man attacked her, police said. They said investigation had revealed the girl was two months pregnant and that the man had beat her abdomen, with the apparent intention of making her lose the baby.
She was rushed to Larnaca hospital where a gynaecologist determined the baby was unharmed. State pathologist Eleni Antoniou was also expected to examine the girl last night.
Oroklini police issued an arrest warrant for her boyfriend and he was arrested at 4.10pm yesterday and held in custody.
