Soldiers burn to death in crash

TWO NATIONAL Guardsmen burned to death in their car early yesterday after crashing into an electricity pylon on the Limassol to Platres road.

Police said the two men were driving towards Pelendri village at around 3am when the driver lost control of the Mitsubishi Lancer which hit the pylon and caught fire.

The Fire Service rushed to the scene but it was too late. DNA tests had to be carried out to identify the two men, Andreas Pantelides and Yiannos Panteli, both 19 and both from Pelendri. State Pathologist Sofoclis Sofocleous is expected to carry out an autopsy on the two bodies today.
