Rape claim by Bulgarian woman

FAMAGUSTA police were last night investigating claims by a 24-year-old Bulgarian woman that she was raped by her employer soon after he collected her from Larnaca airport.

According to the police, the woman claimed she was collected at Larnaca airport on Monday by her 52-year-old employer, a farmer from Sotira. She alleged the man drove her to a remote beach and raped her and that he also raped her on Tuesday night at his farm.

The woman reported the incident to members of the Immigration Department while they were interviewing her at the farm she was working in Sotira.
State Pathologist Sofocles Sofocleous examined the 24-year-old and found she had suffered minor bruises on her body. The full results of the investigation will be made public today.

The 52-year-old man was arrested and is expected to appear before the Famagusta District Court for a remand hearing today.
