Massive nightclub brawl leaves seven injured

A BRAWL outside a Limassol club in the early morning hours of Sunday led to three policemen and four youths being injured, after it took teargas to disperse the troublemakers.

According to reports, two groups of about 50 youths started the fight at a parking lot outside a club. By some accounts, the brawlers hurled sticks, stones and broken beer bottles at one another.

When a group of police officers arrived on the scene, they were attacked by a smaller group of five youths; police then called for backup, and teargas was used to disperse the crowd. A police announcement read that the “necessary force” was used to subdue the brawlers.

Three police officers and four youths were injured in the fracas; one of the youths sustained mild concussion and was kept for treatment at the hospital.

Five youths, including a minor, were arrested and charged with assault and battery and causing actual bodily harm.
It was not clear whether the punch-up was gang-related.
