Minister warns billboards will be torn down

NICOSIA general hospital’s blood bank is running low on blood supplies, doctors warned yesterday. “There is an overall blood supply shortage throughout the island,” said Dr Irene Vassou at the Blood Bank.

Charges dropped in car assembly scam

CHARGES have been dropped against five people accused of importing luxury vehicles in the form of spare parts and subsequently assembling them and selling them without paying the necessary taxes. Nicosia High Court Judge Tefkros Economou had the charges dropped after stating there was not sufficient evidence against them.

The EU: do you know what you’re getting into?

A SERIES of workshops and seminars is to be held in the coming weeks in an effort to raise awareness on the European Union ahead of accession next May. Top speakers lined up for maritime conference

THE VICE President of the European Commission Loyola De Palacio will be among the top speakers at this year’s bi-annual Maritime Cyprus Conference, which will be held in Limassol from September 22-24. De Palacio, who is also responsible for Transport, Energy, and Relations with the European Parliament, will speak on the EU’s shipping policy with regard to quality and competitiveness.

Vassiliou: enough talking down the Annan plan

UNITED Democrats leader George Vassiliou said yesterday fears that the economy would be ruined if the Annan plan were implemented were totally unfounded. He told state radio that his party had commissioned a group of specialists to study the economic aspects of the UN Secretary-general’s plan.
