Man hurt in balcony fall
A 23-year-old Pontian Greek from Paphos was rushed to Limassol General Hospital early yesterday morning after falling from the second floor of an apartment block onto the first floor balcony.
He fell at around 2am, suffering serious injuries, while attempting to climb down from the second floor after a brawl. The man was kept in hospital for treatment. Limassol CID is investigating the case.

Were reservoir fish poisoned?
POLICE are investigating the deaths of 250 fish found in the Loina reservoir in Pedhoulas. An Irrigation Department secretary reported the dead fish to Pedhoulas police after he visited the site on Friday morning and found that all the fish in the reservoir had died.
The police took samples of the water and the dead fish to examine the possibility that they might have been poisoned.

£12m dam for Soleas region
AGRICULTURE Minister Timis Efthymiou has announced plans to build a £12 million dam in the Soleas region to deal with the 40-year-old water problem in the region.
The decision was taken after a meeting with rural organisations and the Soleas Community Council. The dam will hold 3.5 million cubic metres of water channelled from the Karkoti River. Efthymiou will meet community representatives in the area on September 11 to decide whether the dam will be built in Korakou or Flasou. According to the minister, the latter is a more environment-friendly option.

Tosca telecards now on sale
CyTA has issued a special ‘limited edition’ telecard to mark the staging in Paphos next week of Puccini’s opera Tosca, which will be performed as part of the Aphrodite Festival.
The authority said 50,000 of the £3 cards have been issued and are available at kiosks, banks, post offices and shops selling CyTA products.
