‘Lesbian night’ cancelled after outcry

A LIMASSOL night club yesterday was forced to cancel a lesbian party due to public outcry, police said.
Limassol police director George Papageorgiou said the owners of the bar promised they would cancel the party after police went round asking for explanations. The police also threatened the bar owner with arrest if he went ahead with the event, billed as taking place this Tuesday night.
Public relations and promotions manager for Cohibar, Alexis Neocleous, said Cyprus just isn’t ready for such an event.
“The uproar began when a member of the church got their hands on one of the flyers and approached the police to put an end to it.”
Legislation surrounding the legality of such an event is arbitrary.
“The law states that any unethical behaviour in a public place is prohibited but it doesn’t define what’s what.”
“Homosexuality is not illegal here but I guess it must still be unethical”
According to daily Politis, the bar had also published flyers advertising the event, which would have included a £1,000 prize for the best lesbian kiss.
The planned event also outraged many parents, whose under-aged children had carried flyers home.
