Happy feasting at Easter

UNLIKE SO many years past, hospitals in Cyprus did not see an influx of overeaters from this year’s Easter festivities. Easter Monday was a quiet day at the Nicosia General Hospital emergency room, with no more patients admitted for stomach grievances than any average day.

Normally, the surge in stomach problems comes after the annual meat fest, which follows the 50-day fasting period before Easter. Last year between Good Friday and Easter Monday, Nicosia General Hospital admitted over 1,700 patients – a substantial number of whom were treated for stomach complaints.
