Swiss tourists on drug charges

THREE Swiss tourists were arrested in Larnaca yesterday and remanded in custody for seven days for allegedly possessing 48 grams of cannabis, police said.

They said they intercepted the suspects’ car at the port roundabout after following the trio from Larnaca Airport, where they had arrived earlier in the day.

One man, 20, was charged with possessing 40 grams of cannabis, while his two companions, both 19, were charged with possessing four grams each.

The three were apparently on their way to the Paralimni-Ayia Napa area on holiday, but had aroused suspicions among the airport authorities.

They claimed the drugs were for their own use, but police said they plan to probe the suspects’ possible intent to deal the drugs while on the island.
